The project consists of moving heavy rocks from each of the two sloped sides of a creek into the creek itself, to create a crossing made of rocks across the creek. For this reason it would be great for older scouts and/or strong adults to come work, but any workers will be appreciated and given work to do. We will then de-weed the now barren slopes leading down, and dig four holes on each side of the creek, one hole in each corner of the slopes, with post diggers. Then, cement will be mixed and poured into the holes, and wooden posts will be planted in the cement. We'll finish by tying ropes around each pair of posts, to create a rope handrail on each side of the slope leading down into the creek, and cleaning up the worksite.
Dates: Saturday, July 25th and Sunday, July 26th
Time: 9:00- 1:00pm each day
Place: The project is at Mountain Way Commons, at the intersection of Mountain Way NE and N Ivy Rd NE
Snacks and water will be provided.
Scouts need to bring water bottles, face masks and gloves, as well as waterproof work boots if their family owns a pair, if not I will provide them. Scouts should also bring a shovel from their home, but again is not required as I will have two (but more would always be helpful).
Due to COVID-19, we will maintain a safe distance from each other, and for the heavier rocks that need to be lifted, it would be great if we had father-son duos come to the project that can work in close proximity together to lift the larger rocks.
Please note that there aren't public restrooms nearby.
