Conservation Service Project at Mountain Way Commons

Saturday, February 8

The project will be to rescue this nearby city park from a tangle of invasive species. We'll work from 8:30 to 3 with lunch provided at the site. Scouts will earn 6 conservation service hours for advancement, or school. (Venturing Scouts from may elect to do a 1:00 - 3:00 option if preferred.) We'll learn safe and proper use of tools, how to identify these invasive species, why they are an environmental problem, and how to remove them using best practices. We'll learn about the BSA Distinguished Conservation Service Award and how to lead a project like this to earn the award or as part of an Eagle project. The project will be led by Kent Watkins, a Conservation Service Award Advisor and the Atlanta Area Council Conservation Committee Chair.
